HUG &Trip to Israel 17 Jul 2005

Sunday July 17, 2005

This morning after getting ready and all packed up we departed around 8:00 am. Our first stop this morning was a place created by the Baptised joust after the Sea of Galley when the Jordan river piks up again. Here we had a Bible stody and time dedicated to prayer and song with reading of the word. We had a group photo here. After we could get some watter from the river.

From here we went to Nazereth. We found the Lords church here and meat with the church of Christ group here. Thay were an arimaic speaking group. Here Bruce deliverd a mesage off the top of his head and a mimber translated for the group. We also had singing that was started from the diferent people from our group. I then helped serve the Lord’s supper with Bennet. Folowing the service we has time for photoes with our brethern there and I went around and interduced my selfe to them. Befor we had concluded the service we sang the Lord Bless you and keep you. Then we sang I have the Joy, Joy Joy down in my hart in Greek.

After this we went and saw several churches where events were sead to have taken place here. One of thes was the place where Joseph was to have had his workshop. There was a cystern under here and the church building had ben built on top of another church that had a caveron under it. This caveron is where it was sead to have bean. There also was a place in the old church to be baptized being sumersed compleatly. Whall we were in this basment under the church Teeto and Deno gave us information reagrding the place and the terditions around this place.

One other stop was a moderan church that had ben built on top of the original one here in Nazereth. It had a mosac of Mary from every countery. Each of the counterys donated funds and had the Mary from there couture represented on the walls sround this building. It was intersting to see thes and what the differnt coultures think and see some of there coultur from the sculptures. Under neath this church you could goin and see the arches and structure at the leavel where the church was origonaly. When were were here ther was a worship service going on at the time and we stood and lisond and wached them as thay sang chants and did there worship in the roiginal ston seets from the erlear church. This was realy neet.

Then we went up on top of a mounton that overlooked the hole city. Bother old and new. From this view you could also see Tm. Tumbar and the valy from the medaterain sea at Halfu. This is the Yizae’el velley. From here we could see off in the distance where the Philisteen battal took place. Also off in the distance was a tell of Megeto. This place on top of the overlook was a very speshal spot for me and realy helped a lot in context to so many things that hapend in the Bible.

From here we drove down in to the valley and had lunch at a restrant in side a small groshery store. Here many people started going crosey when thay found some Docter Peper.

Folowing lunch we drove to Megeto and took aout an hower touring the tell. This was realy neet to visit after having taken Biblical world and Arcdeology with Dr. Mannor. There we looked at a modle of the site and then toured the site. We started at the city gates and then whent throu reading scriptures at diferent places along the way. One of the stopes along the way at an acent cyclo that was baried in ground. It had stones steps that went down into the store room and the other set of stairs came back out on the other side.

Next we went and walcked down the ancent tunal down into the ssystrn through a wunder gound tunal to the out side of the city wall where the spring was located. Thay had also built a wall to keep the enomey in ancent times from being able to see that thay were gitting watter. This would also act as protection from people entering the city from the watter tunal.

From here we travled to Harids old port city of Sessareea. Hre we got out and went through th eMideveal draw gbrige gate to Harids old city. We read some scripture related to this place and then took a walck along the bord walck whre the sea was splashing over. Next we saw the stone that like and prvs that he had lived. Folowing that we went pasted the hipodrome to the coloseam and then on to the bus. One of the intersting things that was so inpressing was the man made port that had ben constructed out in the sea here. It had ben constructed with wooden barges that had a type of concreet put in it and as it got ever it would sink down into the sea. It potrueded out into the sea and was of a monstrosidy in size. Today there is still little that exist the rest has sence sunk and is only visible form the air or if you go diving here.

From here we travled on to Jeruslem. When we arived at the Hotell we got our rooms and then went to supper. The rest of the night I spen time wrighting till I ran out of ink. Then I sent to bed for the night.

Saturday July 16, 2005

This morning after having a wonderful breakfast at the Hotell befor going down to the Sea of Gallee at Tiberous where we boraded a wooden sailing ship to take us a while acrossed the sea to Talogha.

This ship that we sailed on was made all out of wood that had a dark stain on it. The main body of the ship had a wooden roof covering the ceating area. There were wooden benches carved out of the sides of the ship fro people to sit on. The center part of the ship was bowed and then trap dors built in to go down in the belley of the ship. The rare of the had a rased platform where the crew and caption were. This is where they would navigat the ship out on the Sea of Gallee. This ship was equiped with a ound system and a flag mast at the front of the ship.

During our sail acrossed the sea thay played some instermential christin songs like “God is Ausom God”. There were several people who went up on the bow of the ship up a little stair way up by the mast to use when the wilnd is blowing. They could then use the sails to power the ship. During our time out sailing on the sea the watter were compleatly caulm During our time out on the sea we had the US. National anthom played and the raisiong of the US and Greek flages on the mast along with the allready flying Israiley flage. After the flag saromony we had a demonstaration using the nets similr to what the fishermen of Jesus day would have used. He did the throwing of the nets on eather side of the ship but did not cheach anthing.

Folowing there demonstrations we had a devotional. Thay shut off the engones and we drifted out in the middle of the sea for a whiole during wich time we had some reading of God’s Holy word. Both Deno and Bruce read from the scriptures and sed a few words regarding the place that we were at tin relations to Jesus and his aposeles on the Sea of Gallee. We lisond and read about Jesus wacking on the watter and whre he ccalmed the stom during this time. Folowing the readings we had some singing as we continued to sail again acrossed the sea.

Apone arival at our destonation our ship docked and we all got off and sead good by to the men who had given us a ride on the sea of Gallee. Nest we ent to a musem on the shore of the sea where we docked. Here we saw wat is called the oldest boat in the world that had ben in youse on the Jesus boat. It was desoved on the banks of the sea by a farmor. It had ben mostly preseved by the mud from the sea. In order to rase the ship or boat out of the watter thay used polyurfame phome wich expnds to preotect the boat as thay lefted it out of the silt on the bank. They dug seperat ribs under the ship filling it up witht he fome and then would dig out more of the dirt and continued this process till the hsip was compleated encsed in the phome. Then they saile dit out in the sea once again. From there thay foloted it a little way to a crain where thay lifted the old boat out fo the sea and back on to dry land.

After 12 year of the boadt sitting in a bath were it lowed oil seors to seep into the fibers of the wood so that the prosess that alowed the wood to dry out and disingerat. Today it rest at the musem not far from where it origonaly was found.

Here we wached a film and we were able to see the boat. Afer we had compleated at the museum we headed back to the bus to head to the next destonation.

We then took our bus up a curvey road towards the top of the sea. Here we went to a church that was built at the loaction that is beleved by the kathlick church to be the pace that Jesus went out inot the sea on a boat and tought the crowds. This is where they beleved he tought the beatitudes. Whall the grund makes a natural ampotheator on the hill side this in all actuality mayor may not be the place that this event took place. Herw we gathed on the back part o the church weree Bruce read the related scriputred to this place. When we left this site there was a few people who made coment of the sign that sead no gunes alowed at the sight alon with sever other items.

The next stop ws to the northeren most part of Isral up by Lebanon border in the area of Metulla or what was formerly known as Sessorea Philipy. On our way we travled on a road that was lined with trees to prevent the enomey in Syria and Leboanon to see when a comvoy is traveling and to aced as a buffer for artilery fire. Today thay are cutting down the trees to open up the view sence the thret does not exist any more.

We also pased over the Jordan river that feads the sea of Gallee for the first time. It was suprisingl how small it was. More like a creek that would run in you back yard. It was about 10 feet to 15 feet acrossed the small river.

Once we reached the site we went to use the rest room and then saw the spring that folous out of the hill side. It use to folow out of the cave on the hill side but after an earth quake it now comes out of the rock wall at the botteom of the hill. Thay did some testing with the watter and later decicoved that the water tabl source is realy loacted up a Mt. Hermon wich is the highest mounton peak in Northern Iseral. At the site we also did some reading from the scriptures. Folowing the reading we went by the spring and fresh water creek and went up some steps to the cave where the sprign use to come out. Up here thay had a coan shaped peace of metel with the scripture of all the diferent languages on it and had a pole on it so that the cone could spen in the sand and inprent the sand with the scripture for all to read.

Folowing this site we took the bus up by Mt. Heromn and through the Golan Hights. We made one un planed stop on the top of one of the one of the old military dugins on top of one of the mountons over lookin gSyria. Here we could go dwon in the difent bunkers and Fox holes. There was also a wonderful view looking over into syria.

After our time up on top of the mounton we travled back down around 2,000 feet to 200 feet below sea level at the sea of Gallee on the opeset side of Tiberous at Ein Geve. Here we had a wonderful lunch. One of the main things that they are knoum for is the Sant Peters fish. I ended up getting flayed fish. Thay also had some wenderrful fresh peat bread to go with the meal. Folowing the meal I went out to the sea and took some photoes. The sea by the time had picked up and the were many people out wind serfing on the sea. Our guide Teeto sead that every afternoon around 2:00 the sea pickes up. This is dw to the amount of water that evaporates in the morning causing a vacume efect and pouls in the air from the Mederranian sea to fill this vacum void in the air. This is wat causes the sea to get more ferce and the waves to pick up. At the resterant there were people swiming in the sea and telling the waves come in and pick them up and wash then in.

From here we wen tback around to other side of the sea in the bus. The next stop was at the church were there is a mosac of two fishes. Here is where the kathlies beleve that feading of the five thousand is. After out time at the church we headed over to Copernum. Here we saw a carving in a stone of a ark of the covant disidid on weals. We then went and sawp;art of the old chench and homes today the is an octagnal church built on stilts over the topof the old. There also was a simigoug behwd the homes. Here what would mornaly be the front and face Jerulslem did not. It was on the opeset side. This would mean that people would enter in from the front and then turn around before worshiping facing Jeruslem. Next we went out side and went to an area that was under the trees. Here we had time that our guide tocked to ous and then we read scriptur and sead some prayers. We then saw an olive press and we tooked about the difernt types of oil grades and how thay would have ben created. This all hapend right out side the areas where the trees are out side.

Once we were compleated at the sit we headed back to our hotell in Tiberous along the way we stoped at a store and people bought some soveners. Here then was a horn like that would have bean used at battle of Jerico. Thne it was back for super.

After supper I went down to town in Tiberous with a group. Whall down there we got some ice cream and then walcked down to wher ewe had gotten our ship earler today. Then we found a place to sit down by the rocks for a while. We sat and tocked and played some games joking arund. Folowing our time we walked around on the bord wack before going back to the hotell. At the hotell played some ouneo in the lobey with David, Mickel, Jesica and my selfe. Then it was off to bed.

This morning I woke up at the Artumouse in Greece. I slep in this morning to about 9:00 a.m. and then finished packing for our trip to Isrial. After grabing a quick lunch at the Artmous we all bordad a bus to the air port joust out side of Athens.

Once we arived at the air port, going through security was much strickter than any that we had gone through before. They asked questions about who packed our lugage, had any one touched it sence then, and about where we werfrom and going to in Isrial.

Our flight went realy smothly. One intersting thing was taht after going through all of that securty the air lines gave us real metal silver ware wich included a sharpe knife. After ariving we went through pasport check and then on to get our bagage. This is where we met our Travel agent. We then folowed him out of the terminal to where the bus was meeting us. When we walked out of the terminal there was a large crouds of people all behinde gates. It was almost like we eree stars or something exept theay wernt all chering.

From the air port we toke a bus north along the mediteranin sea and then over to the Sea of Galle. On our way we drove passed Bethlham wich we will visit later an d then on to Tiberous where we will spend the next two nights. Befor going to the Hotell we stoped off at a sinc overlook of the sea. Everthing is much more greener and prity than I had amagened. It was trly be truly butiful. There was a nice breas in the air and the waves were flowing nicly. From the over look we went to the Hotell. At the Hotell our bus drove acedntly backed into an anaging made out of stone but did not cause any damage. After we checked in we all came down and went to dinner. I got the rost beef. It was delishous. Once of the best meals we have had folowing super I went up to my room with T.J. my roomate and relaxed. I then came down and played with David in a bord game befor going up stairs to our room to go to bead.
